About Celebrate - the musical
Celebrate… The Opal Valentine Story is a heart-filled theatrical journey inspired by the life-changing night that transformed singer Opal Valentine. Told through songs inspired by the legendary band Three Dog Night, the musical blends music, magic, humor, and emotional storytelling into a visually imaginative stage experience. The story centers on Opal Valentine, a gifted young singer whose life has been driven by a single obsession: winning a Grammy and proving her worth to the world. From childhood birthdays filled with dreams of stardom to her rise as a celebrated performer, Opal’s relentless pursuit of perfection slowly distances her from the friendships, laughter, and joy that once fueled her love of music. When a devastating betrayal causes her career and personal life to collapse, Opal finds herself drawn into the mysterious Magistique Theater, a dreamlike world where imagination and memory collide. Inside this magical theater she encounters an extraordinary troupe of celestial performers: * Lady Samantha, the radiant Angel of Joy * Eli, a flamboyant magician and God’s mischievous protégé * Jeremiah, a rhyming philosopher who happens to be a bullfrog * Flora, a whimsical butterfly spirit with a Spanish flair Together they guide Opal through a surreal journey filled with music, illusions, and memories of the people who shaped her life. As the magical world unfolds around her, Opal is forced to confront the emotional wounds she has tried to outrun: the loss of her mother, the pressure of her father’s expectations, and the betrayal of her lover Zac.
But not everyone in the Magistique wishes to see Opal succeed. Madeline, a fallen theatrical diva and Eli’s overbearing mother, schemes to sabotage Samantha’s mission and keep Opal trapped in despair. Through comic chaos, dazzling illusions, and unforgettable songs - including “Joy to the World,” “One,” “Pieces of April,” “Eli’s Comin’,” and “Celebrate” - the stage becomes a battleground between joy and bitterness.
As the magical world transforms around her, Opal gradually realizes that the figures guiding her journey reflect the voices of her childhood friends - Esperanza, Nia, Blythe, and Rafael - who once believed in her long before fame entered her life.
By the end of her extraordinary dream, Opal discovers the truth she had forgotten during her rise to stardom - music is not about applause, it is about connection.
When the dream ends and the lights fade, Opal awakens with a renewed sense of purpose. The woman who once chased fame above all else now understands that joy, friendship, and love are life’s greatest rewards.
Filled with humor, theatrical magic, and the timeless music of Three Dog Night, Celebrate… The Opal Valentine Story is ultimately a story about rediscovering the song within and remembering that ..... joy, not fame, is life’s greatest hit.
